Work Experience

Executive Director, Kane County Bar Association (2001 – 2018)
I oversaw all aspects of programming and services for this rapidly growing local bar association. My duties were to work with the Board of Managers to implement the KCBA’s mission. Specific responsibilities included accounting, special event programming and management, volunteer recruitment and development, and publications. I also served as Executive Director of the Kane County Bar Foundation.
Executive Director, Plano Commerce Association (1993 – 1997)
I provided leadership for the Chamber of Commerce including retail promotions, special events and fundraisers. I worked with the Mayor’s office in business development. Major projects included providing support to the city for the recruitment of the Menard’s Distribution Center and establishing improved communication within the membership.
Executive Director, Fox Valley Family YMCA (1986 – 1990 and 1979 – 1983)
As the first Executive Director (and first employee) of the newly formed YMCA, I worked with the volunteer Board of Directors and committees to begin YMCA programming. Following the YMCA’s mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy body, mind and spirit for all, I taught most of the activity classes and then trained new staff for same. I was responsible for all aspects of the YMCA: administration, board and staff development, program and membership development, and public relations. Major accomplishments included opening the new Wellness Center, hiring additional full time professional staff, and coordinating the Capital Fundraising Campaign in 1990 that resulted in a new million dollar facility.
There are many reasons to hire an independent bookkeeper or office administrator:
You don’t have the time because you are busy running your business. If you don’t have to do the bookkeeping yourself you will have more time to develop your business.
You don’t have enough bookkeeping or office administrative work to justify hiring an employee. Why go through the hassle of onboarding an employee, cutting paychecks, reporting, filing, and paying payroll taxes, processing the year end record keeping, etc., when all you need is someone to work a few hours each month?
You have a temporary need. You have employees who do this work, but due to illness, vacations, etc., they are unavailable.
You have a short-term project. Perhaps it’s been awhile since you’ve reconciled your bank accounts and just need someone to help you get caught up. Or maybe you have an unexpected influx of work and just need a little extra help.
You don’t have room. Perhaps you run your business out of your home and don’t have room for an employee. With today’s technology, a freelance / independent bookkeeper or office administrator can work remotely using their own computer and internet. They can even access your computer remotely.
When you hire an employee in the traditional manner, you are committed to the base salary the employee receives. Additionally, you must pay employee taxes, overhead for space and equipment, as well as supplies, benefits, and pay for time not worked, such as vacations, holidays, sick time – even breaks and lunches. There is also an expense in recruiting, hiring, training, and maintaining records. By hiring an independent/freelance bookkeeper or office administrator, you pay a flat fee for their time and none of the overhead. This will save you time and money!
